Elizabeth came to see me Dr Aggarwal about abdominoplasty and muscle repair. Elizabeth has had 3 children and suffered from significant muscle separation after her second child.
Previously she had had 3 hernias around the umbilicus repaired, after she had her third baby, the muscle separation was much worse. Fortunately, the hernia did not recur but she has tried all available treatments to improve the muscle separation including regular exercise, personal training and physiotherapy. Christine ended with issues of poor core muscle performance including ongoing back pain.
6 months after her surgery Elizabeth was able to do sit ups which previously was almost impossible for her to do. She always enjoyed jogging, however before she would end up with of terrible back pain and neck pain. All its gone and she finally can enjoy all the activities as she did before her pregnancies.
*Abdominoplasty in setting of muscle separation is considered as a reconstructive surgery and have associated Medicare item numbers listed in the MBS. This is not a cosmetic surgery. Reconstructive surgery is the opposite of cosmetic surgery. It is focused totally on reconstructing the form of the body after trauma or defect. It can also include body enhancement procedures designed to correct or improve the body’s function or overall health.
